BELOIT — Oktoberfest, the annual outdoor celebration hosted by Downtown Beloit Association, is returning for its ninth year of hammerschlagen, axe-throwing, and beer steins. This yearly event takes place in the 300 block of State Street in downtown Beloit from 5:30-11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival and fair, and it originated in Bavaria, a southeastern state of Germany. The festival is held annually in mid to late September. In Germany, Oktoberfest is typically celebrated for 17-18 days, ending on the first Sunday in October.

Downtown Beloit Association elected to celebrate on the kickoff of Oktoberfest “season,” which begins on Saturday, Sept. 23 and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 1.
