The Greater Beloit area is rich with education, recreation, leisure, and a strong professional community, providing the opportunity for personal development to each and every member of its diverse population.
Historically preserved buildings, decorative gantry and a brick-paved main street with colorful planters, showcase Beloit as a Wisconsin Main Street success story. Downtown Beloit, our city center, is home to a distinctive selection of boutiques, galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, a bookstore and Beloit College, offering everything from organic and sustainable fare to jewelry, original artwork, desserts and unique gifts. During the months of June and October, experience an award winning Farmers’ Market bursting at the seams with fresh produce, flowers, meats, cheeses, jewelry, crafts, handmade soaps, kettle corn and pastries, and that’s just the beginning. Join nearly 5,000 people every weekend as they enjoy the market. Or, actively experience our community by kayaking or canoeing on the Rock River, biking on one of our many bike trails, hiking in Big Hill Park or compete in many of our 5K runs.
Beloit College offers many cultural opportunities with its fine art exhibits, concerts, dance performances, theater productions and athletic events. This nationally recognized liberal arts college, is an integral part of our community and showcases the talents and strengths of our young and vibrant students.
Live music can be enjoyed nearly every day of the week at various venues throughout the city and along the RiverFront during the summer months with a concert series of professional performers. Performing and visual arts begin with venues like Beloit Fine Arts Incubator, The Castle and the Hendricks Center for the Arts transcending into such events as Artwalk, Holidazzle and Edge of the Rock Plein Air Painting Event. Plein Air plays host to artists and their easels, as they become part of the scenery capturing the sights and scenes of our lively community on their canvas. During the month of February, the Beloit International Film Festival (BIFF) showcases more than 140 films from 30 countries at venues throughout the downtown. Filmmakers, residents and visitors share in the excitement of independent films from around the world.
With several major metropolitan areas a short distance away, residents can easily access big-city attractions and still come home to the charm and comfort of a small town. As dramatic social and economic improvements continue to be made in the region, residents will be able to watch Greater Beloit grow and thrive, while taking advantage of everything an active and culturally diverse community has to offer.
