USS Beloit crew to be at Telfer Park

BELOIT — Members of the community will have the chance to meet members of the crew of the USS Beloit combat naval vessel on Aug. 27.

The USS Beloit crew will meet with community members from 3 — 5 p.m. at Telfer Park, 2101 Crasnston Road. Community members also will be able to enjoy shaved ice, and play yard games at the event.

The City of Beloit and the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation are jointly hosting this free community event so Beloit residents can form a relationship with the crew, who will be visiting Beloit the week of Aug. 27-31.

The USS Beloit is a Freedom class littoral combat ship in the U.S. Navy. The ship was christened during ceremonies on May 7, 2022 in Marinette, Wisconsin. The vessel was named after Beloit, Wisconsin because of the long relationship between the U.S. Navy and Fairbanks Morse Defense, which builds engines for ships in the Navy and U.S. Coast Guard.

The USS Beloit was christened and launched in Marinette, Wisconsin on May 7. The new naval vessel was named after Beloit, Wisconsin due to the close working relationship between the U.S. Navy and Fairbanks Morse Defense based in Beloit.
